Project Overview

AIVA is collaborating with AgExpert to validate a product on the AgExpert Sustainability agronomic intelligence framework. The project is designed to support the implementation of a full-season agronomic intelligence framework using standardized lab-based measurements to improve decision-making, optimize nutrient investment, and enhance grain quality.

Core Objectives

Enhance agronomic decision-making

  • Equip producers and agronomists with seasonal and historical data to guide nutrient management and crop health interventions.

Improve soil health monitoring

  • Introduce short-term indicators such as active carbon and CO₂ respiration through standardized lab tests to assess biological activity and soil vitality.

Correlate nutrient investment with grain quality

  • Establish clear links between nutrient application, plant uptake, and final grain grading factors.

Enable regional benchmarking

  • Develop active carbon regional ratings to contextualize soil health within local weather and management conditions.

Support Sustainability Goals

  • Align with carbon forecasting and long-term soil health improvement strategies.

Project Attributes

Innovation Category: Farm Management Software

Targeted Users of the Innovation: Agronomists and Farmers

Locations: Area X.O (Ontario), EMILI (Manitoba), Innovation Farms Ontario (Ontario), Olds College (Alberta and Saskatchewan)

Crops: Soybean, Wheat, Potato, Corn, Rye, Barley, Canola

Project Activities

  • Field scouting is conducted bi-weekly from seeding to harvest, monitoring crop growth, pests, and diseases.
  • Soil samples are collected three weeks after seeding and again post-harvest. Samples are submitted for the Vitellus Health Test.
  • Plant tissue samples are collected bi-weekly throughout the growing season.
  • Grain samples are collected at harvest for grading and nutrient testing.
